For a while now, The Dude has been asking me to teach him how to bake. He talks about wanting to open his own bakery when he grows. He’s even gone so far as to name it (Sweet Treats Bakery), and write out the menu. But I was always too busy. Well, not anymore!
We started out simple: a boxed cake and doctored it up with pudding and a nice glaze.

See that apron? It’s a family heirloom. It belonged to his great-grandmother. She’d be so proud to see him wearing it. 🙂

He carefully read the directions and got to work – all by himself. I merely provided input when necessary. 😉

The Dude can crack an egg! Who knew… Not one shell got in there.

I offered him a choice between stirring by hand or using the KitchenAid. He chose to mix it by hand. He did very well – no lumps.

Time to lick the bowl!

He was very thorough.

“Stop taking pictures now, mom!”

It came out beautiful! But he wanted to add an extra touch to it. So, I gave him the recipe for a simple glaze and he got to work again (right before jumping in the pool – hey, it’s hot down here in the sunshine state!).

Yum! It was like a big chocolate glazed donut.

And we had a proud boy, who happily took the first piece.

Next time he is making homemade ice cream. Stay tuned…

Awesome job, Michael!! Come on over to our neck of the woods and I’ll show you how to make my famous, really! chocolate chip cookies…secret recipe! 🙂
